About Sigma Nu at ECU
Originally known as Kappa Sigma Nu Colony at East Carolina College, the Eta Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu became the first social Fraternity at East Carolina. Kappa Sigma Nu was formed in 1956 and petitioned to become recognized by the Sigma Nu General Fraternity through 1957. On January 27, 1958, the colony's petition was approved and would go on to become the Eta Beta Chapter number 140 of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

The brothers of the Eta Beta Chapter strive to be the best Fraternity on East Carolina's campus every year. In February of 2020, the chapter was awarded its 3rd consecutive "IFC Chapter of the Year" Award, and is aiming to be recognized as a Rock Chapter by the General Fraternity in the summer of 2021.

Today, the Eta Beta chapter resides directly across the street from the original Kappa Sigma Nu location on 5th Street in a newly renovated chapter house. The chapter is one of only seven housed Inter-Fraternity Council organizations on East Carolina's Campus and is one of the largest Fraternities at ECU, with over 60 collegiate members and over 560 initiated members since 1959.
